Monthly Mini December 2023:
Happy holidays everyone and thanks for visiting the blog! December's pattern in the monthly mini series features a Christmas Tree. This pattern allows you to get creative in how you choose to decorate it! Add pompoms or glitter, make your own garland out of thread, lots of fun options to try! This project took me about 30 minutes to create and is a great option if you need a quick make to gift this season. I personally plan to pair a few with gifts I'm giving to teachers and friends this year.

Begin with the E hook and Green yarn. The tree will be worked in joined rounds. The CH 1 after the join in each round will not count in the stitch count.

Round 9: (1 SC in next 6 STS, 1 INC next ST) Repeat around. Join with a SL ST to the first SC of the round, CH 1. (24 SC made) Turn your work so that when you start Round 10 you will be working counter clockwise around the tree. This will assure that the stitches are facing right-side out for the final round.
Round 10: **SL ST in the FLO of the next ST. 1 FLO SC, 1 FLO HDC, 1 FLO SC all in the next ST. SL in the FLO of the next ST. Repeat from the ** ending with a FLO SL ST in the final ST of the round. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Trunk:
Begin with the E hook and Brown yarn. The trunk will be worked in joined rounds.
Round 1: 6 SC in MR. Join with SL ST to the first SC of the round, CH 1. (6 SC made)
Round 2: 1 INC in each SC around. Join with a SL ST to the first SC of the round, CH 1. (12 SC made)
Round 3: 1 BLO SC in each ST around. Join with a SL ST to the first SC of the round, CH 1. (12 BLO SC made)
Round 4: 1 SC in each ST around. (12 SC made) Fasten off, leave a tail of yarn for sewing. Leave starting yarn tail in place.
Base:
Begin with the E hook and Brown yarn. The bottom will be worked in continuous rounds.
Round 1: 6 SC in MR. (6 SC made)
Round 2: 1 INC in each ST around. (12 SC made)
Round 3: (1 SC in next ST, 1 INC next ST) Repeat around. (18 SC made)
Round 4: (1 SC in next 2 STS, 1 INC next ST) Repeat around. (24 SC made) Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn for sewing. Leave starting tail in place.
Finishing:
- To begin we will attach the Trunk to the Base. Do not stuff the Trunk with fiberfill. Thread the starting yarn tail from the Trunk through the yarn needle. Next, take the needle directly through the center of Round 1 of the Base (make sure the right-side of the Tree Base will be facing the Trunk). Gently pull on the starting tail from the Trunk until the bottom of the Trunk dimples slightly (this will allow the tree to stand on its own later). Tie the starting tails from both the Trunk and the Base together. Trim away excess yarn. Thread the tail of yarn left for sewing on the Trunk through the yarn needle. Attach the Trunk to the Base by taking the needle through Round 4 of the Trunk and up through the Base. Pass the needle back and forth through each stitch of Round 4 of the Trunk to secure to the Base.
- Next, gently stuff the Tree. Once stuffed, align the Base to the underside of the Tree. Thread the yarn needle with the tail of yarn left on the Base. Pass the needle through a stitch from both Round 4 on the Base and the BLO of Round 10 on the Tree. Continue to pass the needle back and forth all the way around to secure the two pieces together. Weave the excess yarn through the Base to secure and trim away any excess yarn.
Thanks for stitching along with me. I hope you enjoyed making the mini Christmas Tree with me!
