Welcome! Working up items for the kitchen is a go to for me for gifting. These items are easily paired with lotions, utensils, etc. and are generally quick makes. *3, 3.5oz/100 gram skeins = 1 Dish Cloth & 1 Hand Towel |
Measurements:
Hand Towel = 15 inches wide by 22 inches long
Dish Cloth = 8 inches wide by 9 inches long
STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS:
BST = Berry Stitch
CH = Chain
HDC = Half-Double Crochet
SC= Single Crochet
SL ST = Slip Stitch
ST(S) = Stitches
PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS:
Berry Stitch - Yarn over and insert hook in ST. Pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull the working yarn through the first loop on the hook. Yarn over and insert the hook back into the same ST. Pull up a loop (5 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull the working yarn through all 5 loops on the hook. Autumn Berry Dish Cloth:
Using the H Hook and desired color of yarn: *The CH 1 at the end of the row to turn will not count in the ST count.
CH 30
Row 1: 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook and in each CH ST to the end of the row. CH 1 to turn. (29 SC made)
Row 2: 1 SC in each ST to the end of the row. CH 1 to turn. (29 SC made)
Row 3: 1 SC in first 2 STS. BST next ST. **1 SC in next 2 STS, BST next ST. Repeat from ** ending with 1 SC in last 2 STS of the row. CH 1 to turn. (29 STS made)
Row 4: 1 SC in each ST to the end of the row. CH 1 to turn. (29 SC made)
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 through Row 31. Even rows will be a row of SC STS and odd rows will be a row of SC and BST.
Rows 32-33: 1 SC in each ST to the end of the row. (29 STS made, each row) After completion of Row 33 CH 1 and turn the dish cloth to begin working the border. Proceed to border instructions.
Autumn Berry Hand Towel:
Using the H Hook and desired color of yarn: *The CH 1 at the end of the row to turn will not count in the ST count.
CH 57
Row 1: 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook and in each CH ST to the end of the row. CH 1 to turn. (56 SC made)
Row 2: 1 SC in each ST to the end of the row. CH 1 to turn. (56 SC made)
Row 3: 1 SC in first 2 STS. BST next ST. **1 SC in next 2 STS, BST next ST. Repeat from ** ending with 1 SC in last 2 STS of the row. CH 1 to turn. (56 STS made)
Row 4: 1 SC in each ST to the end of the row. CH 1 to turn. (56 SC made)
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 through Row 89. Even rows will be a row of SC STS and odd rows will be a row of SC and BST.
Rows 90-91: 1 SC in each ST to the end of the row. (56 STS made, each row) After completion of Row 91 CH 1 and turn the hand towel to begin working the border. Proceed to border instructions.
Border:
The CH 1 at the beginning of each round will not count in the ST count.
Round 1: 1 SC in each ST around the dish cloth (or hand towel), working 3 SC into each corner ST. When you reach the corner you started with join with a SL ST into the 1st SC and CH 1.
Round 2: **SL ST next ST, 1 SC 1 HDC 1 SC in next ST, SL ST next ST. Repeat from ** around. If the stitch count ends slightly off with the the last SL ST it is not a problem. Simply adjust as needed at the end of Round 2 by adding or taking away a SL ST.
Fasten off and weave in all remaining yarn ends.
